As many of you know, I just started a shiny new career at Radar DDB within their amazing digital team. Reveling in the success of my first week and debating how to share the news with all of you, I received this inspiring email (below).
From the Chairman and CEO Frank Palmer, a thoughtful letter was sent to the team answering the question: Does A Company Need A Soul? There’s no doubt Radar has a lot of soul — everyone is kind and optimistic; bright, thought leaders who are not afraid to question convention and get you out of your comfort zone to be your very best; projects that are interesting and unique — the kind that make a digital girl like me salivate at the thought of.
This letter summed it all up perfectly and I thought I would share it with you all. Enjoy.
Frankly Speaking / Does a company need a Soul?
The Soul of a Company usually identifies its values, ethics and culture. Some call it their Brand Attributes or Brand Character and it separates one companies core values from another. A company’s soul or core DNA, is sometimes hard to find, but it’s really important to truly have one. The soul of a company acts as the foundation for all that company does. It’s the way in which a company can deliver a clear positioning and it’s unique qualities in the markets they serve. Our soul is reflected in who we are, our beliefs, how we act and treat our clients and most importantly how we treat each other. Soul is most important as one of the driving forces that impacts hiring as well as severing our relationship with those that don’t fit into a company’s culture.
I’d love to believe that through the DDB Brand that we are constantly showing our passion and overall commitment to achieve a winning formula for success. Also importantly that you feel valued and are excited by the work you do and also that you feel the energy working for a company that wants to be seen as a winner.
Having a strong soul makes us better than our competition.
I think that the best indicator on whether or not a company has a soul or not, is your personal experience of either working for one or being a customer of one. If you are like me, you just feel better about some companies than others. Some companies just feel better or just look different. Maybe it’s their secret sauce?
